SoundCloud

February 20, 2016 By Listening Edge

Website: https://soundcloud.com/

I hate to admit this but I’m probably one of a small percentage of musicians who has never checked into what SoundCloud offers. I thought this may be a good time to head over to their website and find out more about who they are, their service prices, and how to get started.

SoundCloud is a social platform which allows the creative community to share their audio with others around the world, and for listeners it provides a way to discover new music. According to their website listeners can comment on recordings, save playlists, create likes, and follow their favourite audio creators. It seems like a creative, fun, and productive way to discover new music, and share your music with others.

At the time of writing this post SoundCloud has three services in total, with one being by invite only. They have a free Partner account for creators providing a basic profile, up to three hours of audio, basic stats, and email support. Their Pro membership comes in two flavours, Pro which allows up to six hours of audio for $6 a month, and Pro Unlimited which allows unlimited uploads for $16 a month. Both versions include enhanced statistics and improved email and priority support, as well as something called spotlight. The third level is Premier which is not available to the general public at this time, and is by invite only. SoundCloud mentions the Premier level will be open to general creators later on, and this level provides some additional features such as revenue sharing, visual profile, and some other features as well.

It’s easy to get started with SoundCloud with their creators guide being filled with numerous tips, tricks, and articles to help you get started on building your online presence with their platform. I’m very impressed with their free account letting you post up to three hours of audio, and their paid monthly services won’t break the bank either. If you’ve tried to install a customized audio player on a WordPress website you’ll know just how valuable a SoundCloud player can be.

I’m glad I took the time to check out the SoundCloud website, and I’m even considering an account for myself. It looks to be a great service with a lot of benefits for both listeners and creators. It’s also a perfect platform for those students and musicians who want to share their music with others, but who do not want to deal with traditional online distribution and music sales. If this sounds like something your interested in, hope over to their website and check them out. As usual remember to always read the terms of use before signing up for any services, a little reading now saves a lot of trouble later. Have fun sharing your music with the world.
