Artist: Il Da Morte
We are Il Da Morte out of Springfield Missouri. We are a 3 piece and have been together for 2 years. We found each other on Craigslist when I moved to the Springfield area and became instant friends and band mates. We released our full CD earlier this year and already have enough material for another CD which we will be recording next year sometime. We have been signed to Liquid Tree Records out of Germany earlier this year and will be going to Europe sometime in the Spring to do some touring to promote our CD and will be recording or 2nd CD in Germany as well. This has so far been the best experience ever..I am the drummer for Il Da Morte and I am 42, never thought I would be in a band at my age let alone be signed,So it goes to the old saying never give up on your dreams!!
Chose professional as this is what we want to do with our lives and we do shows all over.Granted as of right now most of the expense comes out of pocket as being “signed” is not what it used to be.
What Music activities are you involved in? Recording artist, songwriter, composer, producer, engineer?
We write our own music, Our lead singer/lead guitarist writes all of the lyrics and comes up with a riff and we as a whole get together and add our parts to the songs .We have found that this process works the best for us.
What aspect of what you do musically, do you find the most fun?
We find that the process of writing the songs and coming up with our own parts is the funnest part. When your working on a new song and you feel it coming together and you get that feeling of accomplishment it is the greatest feeling in the world completing a new song and then seeing people enjoy your music when you release it live on stage!!
How would you describe your music?
Our music tends to be dark as we touch on subjects that are frightening and scary to most people. We write songs about historical figures such as Jack the Ripper (White Chapel) and Hitler (Blessed are the Gods of War). We also write about the falling of America as a whole with the lack of education (Revolution) and the way people become to dependent on technology (March of the Machine)
How long have you been playing music?
We all have been playing music since we were young teenagers..I myself as the drummer for Il Da Morte learned how to play drums watching 80’s Metal videos on MTV. I would set in front of the T.V. with my drum sticks and learn what drum was what and how they tied together.I was 12 when my Mom bought me my first drum set.
Who was your musical inspiration?
For me (the drummer) I would have to be Motley Crue,Pantera ,Metallica,Megadeth,Slayer
I think that was pretty much all of our influences since we are close to the same ages
How important is performing to you?
Performing for us is the best part of being in a band. To go to a show and play music that you have written as a band together and seeing the crowd respond in a positive manner to our music is awesome. To see them at the front of the stage enjoying what they are hearing and have them come up to you after the show to tell you how much they enjoy your music is the best feeling ever!!
How did you become interested in music?
I as the drummer for Il Da Morte came into music when i was like 11 when my cousin bought me Quiet Riot Mental Health for my birthday..It was unlike anything I have ever heard..I was a Metal Head ever since!!
How important is music in your life?
Music is important to all of our lives as it gives us an outlet for our frustrations..Music is a way of us expressing our ideas and our thoughts..A way of taking a bad day and turning it around..No matter what bad things life throws at us we always have our music to fall back on to make us feel better.
Do you get nervous when you perform?
We always get nervous when we perform. Some shows more than others. If it is a place we have not played before we tend to get nervous because we know these people have never heard us before and we wonder if they will like our music.
As a singer/instrumentalist how important is practice?
Practice is key!! We practice 3-4 times a week as a band to keep up on our songs and to work on new songs..Practice is what gives us new ideas for new songs..when we are between songs and we are just talking or messing around..that is when we come up with the best ideas for new songs!!
What advice would you give to young musicians starting out?
As a young musician starting out we would say to never give up..You may not be the best at your instrument right now but you will find yourself and your own style and that is what makes great musicians..Making the style of music you want to play unique!
What organizations do you feel are important in supporting musicians?
We use social media to promote our music..With the way the world is today that is the easiest and most productive way to get our music out there..We use social media to network with other bands,to set up shows at venues from all over and to keep in touch with our fans and to let them know what we are doing and what we have going on!!
Do you write your own music?
We do write our own music!! We have pondered the idea of doing covers but feel that it takes away from the time we could be using to write new material!
How long does it take you to write a song from start to finish?
Writing a song depends on the idea of the song and how well it comes together. That depends on how long it takes..We have songs that we wrote in one day..then we have songs that took us several days to write and then we also have songs that we started on but then decided to put away for awhile as it wasn’t coming together like we thought.
Did you ever take music lessons?
Me and the Bass player never took lessons. We learned how to play ourselves. The lead singer/lead guitarist took music theory and took music in Junior High and High School.
Do you ever get burnt out working on music?
There are times we get burnt out working on music..I mean you do something almost everyday you tend to get frustrated and tired..but that is with anything really. So you just remember why you do it and you just keep making music for people to enjoy.
How important is it to fit music into your daily life?
Music is something that everyone of us listens to on a daily basis..It has to be a part of daily life because no matter what kind of day you are having there is always that one song that makes you smile.Song are attributed to everyday life..songs that make us sad, happy, laugh, cry, music is associated with everyday life so it is extremely important to fit music into your life!
Do you ever use mobile technology to help you record your ideas?
We have yet to use mobile technology to record ideas..We do record shows once in awhile so we can look back on our performances.
My final thoughts to inspire young musicians:
Future Young Musicians!! Never give up on what you want!! You never start out being the best..But as long as you stick to your guns and practice, practice, practice you will be amazing and will come into your own style and sound!!
